Gazzang, Inc., a cloud infrastructure software company, yesterday announced that it has entered the Cloud Tools Program with Rackspace Hosting, a web hosting company. The company avers that it will provide management solutions that help secure MySQL databases hosted on The Rackspace Cloud, and accelerate enterprise adoption of public, private and hybrid cloud environments.

According to it, its ezNcrypt is a 'set and forget' solution for encrypting MySQL database transactions and data. The solution's patent-pending transparent data encryption (TDE) process auto-encrypts MySQL data at rest with dual authentication keys without making changes to existing applications or databases. Of key importance to hosting providers and their customers, ezNcrypt also protects critical data from being accessed by even root-level administrators as required by many government and regulatory guidelines.

The company says that other features include:

Unlimited encryption of MySQL databases, tables and files
Hosted Key Storage System (KSS)
Protection against system and local users
Compliance with PCI DSS, HIPAA, HITECH, FISMA and other industry-specific regulations
Scalable, pay-as-you-go-per-server subscription licensing

"Cloud computing is fraught with security risks, where data can reside anywhere, applications may be divided across multiple servers, and you don't know who the admins are overseeing the process," said Chris Gillan, Vice President of Business Development at Gazzang. "Gazzang reduces data security exposure in hosted environments so enterprises can embrace all the benefits of cloud computing while avoiding unnecessary risks."
