Dec 3, 2008 : Data Center Selects Atrato Storage

📅 - Colocation and managed hosting provider Green House Data (greenhousedata.com) announced on Wednesday it has selected on-demand storage solutions provider Atrato's (atrato.com) Velocity1000 storage system for its outsourced data center services.

According to the announcement, Green House Data says it selected Atrato's solution for "power, cooling and space savings."

Targeting the computing, digital entertainment and Web 2.0 sectors, Atrato says its on-demand storage solution is unique to competing products on the market because it uses a high-density design that consumes up to 80 percent less energy than standard industry solutions. Atrato V1000 provides a storage solution that is "ideal for cloud computing and virtualized environments as well as applications that require high input and output performance."

Which seems to fit well with Green House Data's overall business philosophy since the 10,000 square foot facility is powered entirely through renewable wind energy and is designed to operate at approximately 60 percent lower energy utilization per square foot than comparable data centers of the same size.

Green House Data's current SAN puts significant power requirements on the data center and takes up an entire 42 units of rack of space. With the V1000, Green House Data says it will be able to reduce its power requirements by 80 percent while achieving the same level of capacity and performance in only six rack units.

The Atrato solution will also enable Green House Data to support eight times as many customers than could be supported by the previous environment, according to the announcement.

"It can be hard to find the right balance between delivering the best technology to our customers and adhering to a higher sense of environmental responsibility," says Shawn Mills, president and founder of Green House Data. "Atrato has helped us to reconcile these two objectives. Our commitment to sustainable solutions led us to the Atrato V1000 for its unmatched performance density that saves us significant space, power and cooling costs. It is Atrato's high performance standards and total cost of ownership that has enabled us to launch our cloud computing initiative."

Green House Data says it provides outsourced data center services and brings "high-touch, high service solutions to the market in a cost-effective package." Although the exact size of the company is undisclosed, according to the press release, prior to Atrato's solution Green House Data was able support around 83 clients, but with its updated infrastructure it can now scale up to 665 clients.
