Jun 2, 2008 : ActiveHost Offers Parallels VPS Plans

📅 June 2, 2008 - One of the web hosting business's most notable supplier of software, Parallels (parallels.com) announced on Monday that web hosting provider ActiveHost (activehost.com) has launched a new offering based on Parallels' automation and virtualization software.


Delivered under the newly created ActiveVPS division of ActiveHost, the company says it is offering Windows virtual private server packages using Parallels Virtuozzo Containers, Parallels Plesk Control Panel and Parallels Business Automation software to "meet the increasing demand by large enterprises for economical servers to use in development and test environments."

ActiveVPS managed hosting plans are available with pre-configured software solutions including the Parallels Plesk Control Panel for server management, SmarterTools software for business productivity and Acronis TrueImage for server backup.

"We see our VPS offering as a hybrid service between shared and dedicated hosting, providing better security, isolation and management capabilities than traditional hosting solutions at a more attractive price," says William Platnick, director of managed services, ActiveHost. "It is a great offering for small and mid-sized businesses that want control of their server, but can't afford a dedicated server package."

The integration is part of the ongoing development of Parallels "Open Platform" initiative, which uses APIs to facilitate the integration of its virtualization and automation technology with any sort of third party application or system. Parallels says the Application Packaging Standard, a key element of the platform, is used by ISVs and service providers to integrate applications, which can be offered to the more than 10 million businesses and individuals that use Parallels products.

A number of sessions surrounding these ideas were presented a couple of weeks ago at the third annual Parallels Hosting Summit 2008 in Washington, D.C.

Several new Parallels partnerships were also announced at the summit, including deals with Zend Technologies, Rack-Soft, Solar VTG, emerion Webhosting and Absolute Performance.
