Apr 28, 2008 : CA Integrates Opalis Software
📅 - In a deal that mirrors some of the collaborative aspects of several recent acquisitions in the data center software space, CA said this week that it had partnered to integrate the functions of Opalis Software into its own products.
The companies say they have formed an OEM agreement through which CA will offer enterprises Opalis software for designing and building workflows around IT processes such as deploying servers or dealing with application failures.
The deal is notably similar to several recent acquisitions in the data center space. Last year, HP acquired Opsware, while BMC more recently acquired BladeLogic. In each case, the deal added substantial data center automation functions to the portfolio of a major data center software deveoper.
CA already integrates certain functions of Opalis's Spectrum software, including tools for managing Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks. But CA says it intends to build integration for the application across its entire data center automation product line.
According to CA, the impetus for the greater integration was not the pressure felt from the other big players in the data center market making acquisitions, but a demand among its customers for extended autmation features within their data center management technology.
In a bit of far-reaching speculation, some analysts suggest that the extended partnership of the OEM agreement may be a part of a longer-term lead-up to the acquisition of Opalis by CA.
