Jun, 2001 : Level 3 To Provide Broadband Services For Microsoft
📅 - Shares in Level 3 Communications surged this morning when the company announced an agreement to provide broadband services for six Microsoft Internet properties.
The Web hosting and broadband service provider said Microsoft's MSN Network will route "significant traffic" to Level 3's network for global delivery, starting with a service target of three gigabits per second of Level 3's backbone capacity.
MSN's total traffic represents 10 gigabits per second. Level 3 said an agreement is in place for the company to handle all of MSN's traffic at a later date if necessary.
Under the agreement, Level 3 will provide North American access service for six MSN Network properties, including Hotmail and MSN Messenger.
"We look forward to working with Microsoft and supporting their worldwide offering of Internet services," said Neil Hobbs, Vice President for Level 3. "As we work with them to meet their rising needs for more bandwidth to serve their growing user base, we believe we will see significant traffic and revenue growth. We appreciate the commitment that Microsoft has made to Level 3 and will work hard to live up to our commitment to meet their outsourcing needs."
Shares in the company were trading at $5.07 for a gain of close to 8 percent, or 37 cents, in morning trading.
