📅 - Compaq Computer's Japanese unit is teaming up with Microsoft and telecom giant NTT to form an e-commerce software firm, a Japanese business daily said today.
The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported that the three companies will form a company in August which will provide e-commerce software to businesses. The daily also said NTT Data, a subsidiary of telecom Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp (NTT), will take a majority stake in the company. Microsoft and Compaq would then likely split the remainder. NTT is also the parent company of global Web hosting company Verio. The new company will aim for three billion yen in sales in the 2003 financial year. The company plans to offer software that allows other companies to managed all aspects of e-commerce, including sales, inventory and settlement. Shares in NTT were down 64 cents, or 2.3%, in morning trading on the NYSE Thursday. NTT is currently trading at close to $27.

The policy will prevent users from sending emails from different domains. However, this has been met by complaints from several of Verizon's customers, who doubt that the policy will be at all helpful, and see it merely as a nuisance.
