), a leading provider of open source-based managed hosting services, and PostgreSQL, Inc (pgsql.com), an international provider of open source object-relational DBMS, yesterday announced the "PostgreSQL Quick Start Program," for customers running complex PostgreSQL Web sites.

This program combines Rackspace's managed hosting and support with PostgreSQL, Inc's database design, consulting and support services. PostgreSQL, Inc is the first and most experienced commercial source for
the advancement of PostgreSQL, a powerful open source database for Web sites. Rackspace, an industry leader in the use of open source technology, was the first managed hosting company to support Linux, and today manages more than 3,600 servers.
The PostgreSQL Quick Start Program offers Rackspace customers up to four hours of senior engineering consulting on PostgresSQL database construction and architecture as well as up to 12 months of DBA support from PostgresSQL, Inc at no cost with a standard Rackspace contract. The companies say this allows IT professionals to focus exclusively on their applications, while Rackspace handles the infrastructure and operating system and PostgreSQL, Inc handles the database.
"The ability to offer PostgreSQL, Inc's level of database expertise in combination with our 24/7 fanatical support is a huge benefit to anyone building dynamic database applications on PostgreSQL," said Graham Weston, chief executive officer of Rackspace.
