Aug, 2001 : Call-Net Signs $70 Million IT Outsourcing Deal with EDS
📅 - Call-Net Enterprises Inc. (callnet.ca) announced a$70-million, five-year information technology outsourcing agreement todaywith EDS Canada (eds.com/canada). Call-Net Enterprises, the country's leading alternative national provider of local, long distance, data and Internet protocol services, is EDS' largest telecom client in Canada.
"This partnership leverages EDS Canada's strength and competency in IToperations while allowing Call-Net Enterprises to focus on our core telecomnetwork and operations," said Serge Babin, Call-Net's senior vice presidentand COO. "We are in the execution phase of our strategy to become a leadingprovider of integrated telecommunications solutions and this partnershipwill ensure our IT infrastructure and operations grows with us."
Call-Net Enterprises' president and CEO Bill Linton said: "Thiscomprehensive agreement sets the stage for a business partnership beyond thescope of traditional outsourcing transactions. Our new relationship promisesto stimulate initiatives for continuous improvement, while also providingthe opportunity to explore joint marketing and sales strategies."
Under the agreement, EDS Canada will assume operational responsibility forCall-Net's IT operations and infrastructure, including the company's datacenter operations, enterprise-wide desktop support, around-the-clock helpdesk support and local area network. Approximately 77 Call-Net employeeswill transition to positions at EDS Canada. "Companies around the world wantoutsourcing strategies to gain advantage in the competition for resources,capital and markets," said John Dowd, president of EDS Canada. "With ourexpertise, vast infrastructure and global workforce of 120,000, EDS isuniquely qualified to assist companies like Call-Net so they can focus ontheir core business.
