📅 - Sun Microsystems, Inc. (sun.com)today announced that it has nearly doubled the overallperformance of its popular rack-optimized Netra X1thin server retaining the same price of US$995. Thisone- processor thin server presents an affordableentree to Sun technology for Internet services rangingfrom e-mail and messaging to Web hosting and DNSservices.
Sun has increased the Netra X1 server's processorspeed by 25 percent, doubled the maximum memorycapacity, and added larger, faster hard drives withoutincreasing the price. The Netra X1 server ships withthe complete Solaris 8 Operating Environment andlights out management at no additional charge. The newserver configuration also supports the Solaris NetworkCache Accelerator socket. With Solaris 8 OE andSolaris NCA the performance of the new Netra X1 serverconfiguration has been increased almost two-fold as adedicated web server.
"Digex and Sun engineers worked very closely inqualifying the Netra X1 in the rigorous environment ofthe Digex Unified Lab and, after thorough testing, wefound the Netra X1 performed to the standard that weexpect from Sun products," said Joe Crawford,assistant vice president of engineering at Digex. "Asmore businesses move their transaction processing tothe Internet, this additional hardware component willallow Digex to expand our solutions to a widerspectrum of business models."
