📅 - Network Associates (nai.com)yesterday announced the availability ofenterprise-wide solutions to detect and remove theNimda worm from end-user systems and corporatenetworks. Through the McAfee PGP security and snifferdivisions of Network Associates, businesses canidentify vulnerable systems, detect the presence ofNimda probes on the network, and clean and remove theNimda worm from their environment.
"Based on estimates of more than two million machinesbeing infected with the Nimda worm worldwide, weestimate the economic impact of the Nimda worm to be$530,650,000," said Michael Erbschloe, vice presidentof research for Computer Economics(computereconomics.com). "If not for automated anti-virus updating processes, like those offered byservices like mcafeeasap.com, clean-up costs alonewould be much greater, taking the economic impactfigure to well over $1.9 billion and weeks toachieve."

TheNimda protocol filter is available for no additionalcharge to existing Sniffer customers.
McAfee AVERT has developed the NimdaScan utility whichwill aid users in not only removing the worm fromtheir systems, but shutting down the guest accountcreated by the worm and the open shares also createdby the worm. Previously, this was done manually. NimdaScan is available to both McAfee and non-McAfeecustomers.
