Sun Announces Upgrade, Incentive Programs for Ultra Workstation Owners

📅 October 3, 2001 - To commemorate the retirement of its best selling UNIX workstation, Sun Microsystems, Inc. (sun.com) today announced the Sun UltraUpgrade Program, offering discounts to Sun Ultra workstation owners whoupgrade to Sun's faster, more powerful line of Sun Blade workstations. Sunalso announced a companion campaign dubbed "Find the Fives," a specialpromotion that sets out to locate five Sun Ultra 5 workstations in the firstgroup of workstations sold. Lucky customers, with the serial numbers listedbelow will be rewarded with a free, fully-loaded Sun Blade 100 workstationpackage.

The Sun Ultra Upgrade Program provides extra discounts to those who trade intheir older Sun Ultra 5, 10, 60 or 80 workstations for one of Sun's newerSun Blade 100 and Sun Blade 1000 workstations. Introduced in Sept. 2000, theSun Blade 1000 workstation offers a high-end 3D graphics workstation,featuring twice the performance, memory and disk capacity of existingUltraSPARC II systems.
Earlier this year, Sun unveiled the Sun Blade 100 workstation, a 64-bit 3Dgraphics workstation priced under $1,000 without a monitor.
