Oct, 2001 : Shell Signs $250M Contract with Cable & Wireless
📅 - Shell Information Technology International B.V. (shell.com)and Cable & Wireless (ce.com), a global telecommunications group, yesterday announced a strategic relationship, signing a three-year contract worth over USD 250 million.
The strategic relationship enables the Royal Dutch/ Shell Group of Companiesto consolidate a series of telecommunications arrangements under a singlesupplier network in order to improve the management of its globaltelecommunications, offer a consistent quality of service throughout itsglobal operations and lower costs by an estimated USD 50 million over theinitial three year period.
"This strategic relationship is key to Shell's overall global infrastructureproject as it provides us with the flexibility to introduce new technologyinto the business while reducing our costs. Working with Cable & Wireless,we can really boost the efficiency of our network and make it easier stillfor people to do e-business with Shell," said Thijs Kout, general managerGI, SITI BV. "The relationship also provides a solid platform andspecialist knowledge to find and test those technologies which truly offernew business opportunities for Shell."
Cable & Wireless' global data and IP-based infrastructure will provide Shellwith a secure, flexible platform on which it can capitalise on newtechnology and add easily new applications as the business evolves. Theservices include voice, data and Internet services at an international andnational level leveraging Shell's data centres in Houston, The Hague andKuala Lumpur and third party management services.
