Nov 7, 2001 : Omnicluster Introduces Slotserver 3000

📅 - OmniCluster Technologies, Inc. (omnicluster), a server bladesdeveloper, has announced that it has expanded its product line with theaddition of the SlotServer 3000. The SlotServer 3000 will complementOmniCluster's SlotServer 1000, which has been on the market since April2001.

The SlotServer 3000, priced at $1,195.00 US MSRP, is the industry's firstmultipurpose, independent blade server Pentium III-based PCI card thatinterfaces with the host computer through the PCI bus. Unlike other ServerBlades, the SlotServer is built on an industry standard PCI architecture andis compatible with virtually all operating environments - including Windows2000, Windows NT, RedHat Linux, FreeBSD. This enables users to runapplications tuned for an operating system, regardless of the host server'soperating system.
For example, users can run a Linux-based firewall within a Windows-basedhost, on an isolated server. The SlotServer 3000 communicates with thesystem through three different interface modes: Shared storage, gigabitEthernet, and bus-master DMA. It also comes with OmniCluster's Virtual Diskmanager, a user-friendly, GUI-based software management tool featuringdrag-drop operating system image allocation and full SlotServer storagesystem management. VDM allows IT managers to deploy, update, or changemultiple SlotServer's operating systems in seconds, greatly improving staffeffectiveness and time to market. The SlotServer 3000 fits into any hostwith a full-length PCI slot and can be added to standard new or existingPCI-based servers. This allows users to add server capacity to theircurrent servers and without replacing the units or taking additional spacewithin the rack, maximizing their original hardware investment.
Primary features of the SlotServer 3000 include:
700 MHz x86 Intel Pentium III processorExpandable to up to 2 GB of RAMUp to 4 SO-DIMM modules with ECC support optionalAt least two Ethernet interfacesExpandable functionality using PMC adaptersFits into any host with a full-length PCI slot10/100 Mbps Ethernet interface, standardMultiple 10/100 Ethernet ports availableGigabit Ethernet on the PCI interface, standardRAID / SCSI / SAN / NAS compatibleOn-board high-speed IDE interface
"The SlotServer 3000 is a new product line that addresses an expandedcustomer base as compared to our current server blade product, theSlotServer 1000," said Christopher Fleck, CEO of OmniCluster Technologies."The 3000 is designed specifically for that customer that intends to runapplications where more CPU power is required, such as databaseapplications, SSL and distributed computing. The SlotServer 1000, on theother hand, serves the needs of users performing isolated functions such asfirewalls and utility server systems, static Web servers, and print or fileservers."
OmniCluster will unveil the SlotServer 3000 at the Comdex show in November, held in Las Vegas. The product will begin shipping in January 2002.
