📅 December 17, 2001 - Symantec Corp. (symantec.ca) has announced the release ofthree upgraded products: Norton AntiVirus 2002 Professional Edition, NortonInternet Security 2002 Professional Edition, and Symantec AntiVirus 2002 forPalm OS.

Norton AntiVirus 2002 is compatible with the latest Palm and Windowsoperating systems and has been developed to automatically keep PCs and PDAssafe from malicious code without interrupting productivity. In addition toprotecting users from virus threats, Norton AntiVirus prevents downtime byenabling the recovery of erased files and the secure elimination ofsensitive and confidential digital documents, the company stated.

"These savvy users need the best protection and most automatedsolution available to eliminate the need for time-consuming computermaintenance. Norton AntiVirus 2002 Professional Edition helps professionalsand advanced users make the best use of their time by keeping theircomputers and handheld devices virus-free and by making solid protectioneasy and automatic."
Norton AntiVirus 2002 is designed to help maintain user productivity bydetecting and removing viruses without user intervention, speeding recoveryfrom virus attacks, and keeping virus definitions up-to-date. Customersreceive a free one-year subscription to virus definition updates.
The software uses new script-blocking technology that constantly monitorsscripts for virus-like malicious behavior in both incoming and outgoinge-mail, then stops their activity and alerts users before the virus canspread and cause downtime. AntiVirus 2002 also now protects and recoverssensitive files and allows users to digitally shred confidential electronicdata. In addition, Symantec AntiVirus 2002 for Palm OS is included as anintegral component of Norton AntiVirus. AntiVirus for Palm OS features adevice-resident scanning engine that works in the background protecting Palmdata from multiple sources of infection, including HotSync, infrared andInternet download.
The new Norton Internet Security 2002 provides protection against a range ofInternet risks including viruses, hackers, privacy breaches, and onlineproductivity distractions. Norton Internet Security is the first Symantecconsumer product to include Norton Intrusion Detection, protection againstboth external and internal security breaches. It automatically interceptssuspicious connections and malicious attacks such as Code Red. The softwareincludes User Access Manager, a supervisor feature that simplifies theconfiguration of security settings in a small-network environment and NortonProductivity Control, to manage Internet usage. Additionally, the newNetwork Notification feature informs users when their computer has joined awireless or other network.
Internet Security 2002 can block distracting Web sites and preventing accessto specified newsgroups. Access rules can be set up for individuals andworkgroups. Users can also remove online banner advertising and most pop-upwindows in order to accelerate download speeds.
