📅 - Level 3 Communications, Inc. today announced ithas executed an agreement to sell metropolitan dark fiber in Washington,D.C., to the District of Columbia city government.
The District will use more than 20 fibers from Level 3 to create ahigh-speed data network linking government buildings at various locationsacross the city. "This agreement highlights the flexibility of our metropolitan networks,"said Glenn Russo, Level 3's senior vice president of global infrastructureservices. "If a customer requires a large number of fibers, we can meettheir needs quickly and efficiently. We look forward to working with theDistrict as it continues to enhance government communications systems onbehalf of residents and taxpayers." Level 3 owns and operates a total of 36 metropolitan networks, 27 across theUnited States and nine in Europe. The metro networks connect the company'sdata centers to key data traffic aggregation points in each city, such ascentral offices, telecom hotels and data centers operated by other carriers.They are also linked to Level 3's long-haul network.
