(akamai.com), a provider ofoutsourced e-business infrastructure services and software, announced thatthe World Economic Forum has turned to the Akamai EdgeSuite service tosupport its Web operations, including delivery of weforum.org, for theForum's annual meeting continuing through today in New York.
"The World Economic Forum brings together the world's foremost leaders inbusiness, government, academia, journalism, and others who are taking partin a crucial exchange of ideas; and their dialogue is attracting attentionover the Internet from around the globe," said Paul Sagan, president,Akamai. "To share the dialogue with a worldwide audience requires the uniquecapabilities of EdgeSuite to meet the Forum's need for continuous uptime andscalability as more and more people look to follow the meeting online." "Akamai has demonstrated a scalable and reliable distributed computinginfrastructure with its proven ability to support landmark events on theInternet," said Malte Godbersen, director, knowledge management, at theWorld Economic Forum. "Initially we supported our Web site internally, butdue to the worldwide demand for this year's annual meeting we needed asolution built upon an international platform, one that is easilyimplemented to meet our immediate needs, and provides a cost-effectivealternative to trying to build out our own infrastructure."
