Feb, 2002 : Eagle Broadband and Path 1 Forge VoIP Partnership

📅 February 8, 2002 - Eagle Broadband (eaglebroadband.com), a supplier of broadbandproducts and services, announced yesterday that it has signed a Memorandumof Understanding with Path 1 Network Technologies Inc. (path1.net), aprovider of technology, equipment and services that merge video transportwith IP/Ethernet broadband networks. The MOU calls for Eagle Broadband andPath 1 to create a marketing and technology alliance to address the growingmarket for long distance, realtime, DVD-quality video distribution overconvergent IP virtual private networks or private networks.

"In addition to assisting us with our current long distance distribution ofVideo-over-IP commitments, Path 1 will work with Eagle to identify newconvergent opportunities," said Dr. H. Dean Cubley, Eagle Broadband'schairman of the board and CEO. "There are a number of cities re-evaluatingtheir historic broadcast and communications dependencies and consideringreplacing them with flexible IP infrastructures. With the Path 1 technology,Eagle can distribute content from our headend facilities over broadband IPnetworks into any distant part of the country without having to duplicatethese facilities in each new location."
Path 1 CEO, Frederick A. Cary, stated, "Path 1 will provide Eagle withaccess to technical video expertise in network architecture, design, systemintegration, customized stream management software, media gateway hardwareand other conditioning devices that help in the deployment and debugging ofconverged real-time networks. With our unique, patented, IP technology,Eagle's networks will be capable of transporting real-time streams comprisedof live and streaming DVD-quality video and video over IP, along with legacydata traffic over long distance distribution facilities with the samequality and clarity as Eagle now transports these products from their localheadends out to their local customers."
