AT&T And Partners Launch First Sino-Foreign IP Broadband Services Venture In China

📅 - AT&T, a telecommunications company and supplier of data, Internet and managed services, announced today that it has launched the first Sino-foreign joint venture with Shanghai Symphony Telecom (STC) and Shanghai Information Investment (sii.com)(SII). Shanghai Telecom, a subsidiary of China Telecom, will market its services under the brand name Unisiti.

Unisiti is the first and only joint venture in China with foreign participation to provide IP-based data services to business customers in the Pudong business district of Shanghai. In addition to its own portfolio of products and services, Unisiti will offer a range of services from parent companies AT&T and China Telecom.
Formed in response to growing demand from multinational corporations for advanced data communications in China, the joint venture will connect seamlessly with other global operations. The demand for such an entity is greater than ever now, given the rise in foreign investors in Shanghai, as a result of China's entry into the World Trade Organization. Unisiti's communications services showcase China's economic development in the Pudong area--home to more than 100 of the Fortune 500 multinational companies.
Although the services announced today are initially available in Pudong, Unisiti has plans to expand its services to the rest of Shanghai, and other major cities in China.
The AT&T offers included in the joint venture portfolio are an extension of AT&T's managed services portfolio, which was launched worldwide in January. Managed services are a core component of AT&T's overall strategy for serving business customers.
?The fact that so many of our most important customers from the United States and around the region are here in Shanghai to celebrate this launch is testament to how critical the China market is to their businesses,? Mr. Armstrong added.
Customers attending today's launch included Kodak, Tyco Electronics and Air Products and Chemicals, a market leader in the global electronics and chemical processing industries, and long-standing innovator in basic manufacturing sectors, including steel, metal, glass and food processing.
