iXsystems Inc Acquires Racemi's RACE5 Blade Server Technology

📅 April 15, 2002 - iXsystems, Inc, a software provider, and Racemi, Inc., a software solutions provider today announced an agreement in which iXsystems will acquire Racemi's RACE5 blade server technology and certain intellectual property for the design and operation of blade and rack-optimized servers.

Acquiring Racemi's (racemi.com) engineers, associated with blade server hardware, iXsystems will add the two-year-old blade server technology to its own line of rack-optimized servers later this year. The definitive agreement will be finalized in May and the terms will remain confidential.
Providing an efficient and cost-effective, dense, and scalable blade-server solution, the current RACE5 platform, includes five Intel Pentium III server blades in a 1U rack unit. Operating in either in a diskless or hard-disk mode, each blade can run a range of applications and operating systems, including FreeBSD, Red Hat Linux, Immunix, or Windows NT/2000 Server.
The RACE5 blade provides administrators virtual access to server pools with a library of operating system and application suites. Enabling administrators to change the operating system and application loads at any time, it reduces the numbers of servers needed to meet unpredictable demands.

(microsoft.com), announced on Wednesday that it has released a cumulative patch for its Internet Information Server that fixes more than ten holes in the Web server software, including several critical patches for vulnerabilities that could allow a hacker to take complete control of a machine. The announcement recommends that anybody hosting Web servers using Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Windows XP install the new patch, which Microsoft says fixes all previously identified IIS security vulnerabilities, as well as 10 new ones. According to Microsoft, the company has not yet had reports of any attempts to take advantage of the exploits.
