May, 2002 : Red Hat Announces Alliance Partner Program

📅 May 29, 2002 - Open source and Linux provider Red Hat Inc. (redhat.com) announced on Wednesday that it has introduced the Red Hat Alliance, a partner program designed to strengthen relationships between Red Hat and companies that provide technology to the enterprise market.

Among the recently committed partners, says Red Hat, is a long list of companies, including such heavyweights as Check Point Software Technologies, Computer Associates, IBM, Novell and Veritas Software.
According to Red Hat, the company has used the Red Hat Alliance to forge long-term relationships with partners supporting its enterprise family of products, including the recently released Red Hat Linux Advanced Server. Red hat says Advanced Server is the ideal Linux solution for partners and customers due to its longer release cycles, added enterprise-class features and unprecedented reliability and stability.
The alliance program provides Linux solutions to enterprise customers through certification, assuring customers that applications and hardware work with Red Hat's enterprise products; support, working with partners to ensure that customers receive enterprise-class support; and technology, collaborating with partners to improve Linux solutions for enterprises looking to migrate to Red Hat Linux.
The Red Hat Alliance is based on two levels of participation. Red Hat Premier Partners include some of the most widely known technology companies in the industry. Red hat helps these ISVs, hardware OEMs and technology vendors to deliver their solutions on Red Hat Linux enterprise products. The Red Hat Ready Partners have expanded access to Red Hat products and services. These partners receive assistance in porting applications and systems to the enterprise product line, and can participate in promotional activities surrounding the Red Hat Alliance.

📅 May 30, 2002 - Microsoft Issues Exchange 2000 Alert - A newly discovered vulnerability in Microsoft's Exchange 2000 could potentially cause e-mail servers to become unresponsive, the company said yesterday. The company said an attacker able to make a direct connection to an Exchange 2000 Server and pass raw mail messages directly to it could exploit the vulnerability and cause the system to crash. "This vulnerability does not enable the attacker to gain any privileges on the system, nor to read, send, or delete any user's mail on the system. After the message had been processed, the system returns to normal," the company said in an alert on its site. Microsoft has made a patch available to fix the problem.
