👈 Official Responses: 0) announced on Thursday that it has filed a lawsuit against VeriSign Inc. (VeriSign.com), alleging false and deceptive advertising, interference with customer relationships, misappropriation of trade secrets and consumer fraud.

Go Daddy says it is initially seeking a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to prevent VeriSign from carrying on with the advertising practices.
The lawsuit, says Go Daddy, was triggered by a recent VeriSign marketing campaign in which Go Daddy's customers received "Domain Name Expiration Notices" marked with "Reply By" dates that did not correlate with actual domain expiration dates.
The marketing campaign recently prompted the filing of a similar lawsuit by registrar BulkRegister (BulkRegister.com 👉 Total Reviews: 2

👈 Official Responses: 0 -> enom.com). In a Maryland District Court on Tuesday, May 14, the BulkRegister suit won a preliminary injunction stopping VeriSign from contacting BulkRegister customers with deceptive messages.
The Go Daddy lawsuit alleges that unsuspecting customers were tricked into signing and returning the misleading forms to VeriSign, inadvertently transferring their domain names to VeriSign at a cost of $29 per domain.
Go Daddy says that after warning its customers of the deceptive mailings, the company was inundated with communication from customers who had mistakenly returned the forms, thinking they were from Go Daddy.
"Marketing is one thing. Deception is something else all together," says Bob Parsons, Go Daddy's founder and president. "The purpose of this lawsuit is to protect our customers from being misled and victimized by VeriSign's deceptive campaign."
