Aug, 2002 : Loudcloud Stockholders Approve Sale to EDS

📅 - Managed hosting company Loudcloud Inc. (Loudcloud.com), soon to exit the hosting business and be renamed Opsware Inc., announced on Monday that its stockholders have approved the previously announced sale of the company's managed services business to service provider EDS.

When the transaction is completed, says Loudcloud, the company will change its name to Opsware Inc. and continue the transition from managed service provider to its new enterprise software company, which will focus on licensing the company's Opsware IT automation software to enterprises, government agencies and service providers.
The Opsware software, says the company, will simplify the lifecycle management of servers and applications. EDS will also license Opsware System 3 for its own use for $52 million over three years.
"We are pleased with the stockholder endorsement of the transaction, and look forward to completing the deal with EDS ahead of our previously stated September target date," says Ben Horowitz, Loudcloud's CEO. "We look forward to starting off Opsware Inc. with the solid customer validation from EDS and other Fortune 500 enterprises, a two-year market lead in terms of development of our IT automation software, and a great opportunity ahead of us."
