Dec 18, 2002 : Last Digital Lowers Domain Name Pricing

📅 December 18, 2002 - Domain name registrar Last Digital (LastDigital.com -> fasthosts.co.uk) announced on Monday that it has cut its prices for .co.uk and .com domains by 50 percent in response to heavy reductions recently implemented by the company's immediate competitors.

Last Digital says it has been in negotiations with the UK domain name authorities since August in this year, a process that has enabled the company to distribute .co.uk and .com domains for some of the lowest prices in Europe. Last Digital now offers .co.uk at the price of £9.99 for two years, including all registration fees and no hidden charges.
The company says its up-front pricing is in contrast to the tactics used by a number of low-priced domain name suppliers. UK domain name suppliers, says Last Digital, frequently advertise domains available for as little as a penny, plus the required registry fee. In many cases customers are not presented with the final total, which can be as much as 10 or 20 pounds, until after they have taken the time to fill out their details.
"There is a race on to seize control of the UK domain market," says Plat Alper, CEO of Last Digital, "and as a competitor, Last Digital will shy away from the traditional hidden charges strategy and offer a complete honesty policy to customers."
