Jan, 2003 : Interland to Close CommuniTech.Net Facility

📅 January 13, 2003 - According to reports released this week, Web hosting firm Interland Inc. (Interland.com ) plans to close the Kansas City-based facilities of CommuniTech.Net, which it acquired in 2002, incorporating the company's customers and services into its other data centers in Atlanta, Miami and Los Angeles.

Employees at the company's 60-person office were notified this week that the Kansas City operation will be completely shut down in 60 days. According to reports, some of the company's employees will be offered positions in Atlanta. Those offers will be finalized by next week.
Interland said it had not yet made a decision about consolidation when it acquired CommuniTech in February of 2002, but it recently decided that incorporating the company's business into its existing operation would be more efficient.
Founded in 1997, CommuniTech was a favorite among Kansas City technology companies, and the largest Web hosting provider in the area. The company's founders, who began CommuniTech as students, say they are unhappy with the business's closing.
