Feb, 2003 : German Registrar Bans Controversial Site

📅 - According to CNET News, a German domain name registrar has deleted the registration for a US-based site that offers pictures, videos and news stories of an off-color nature.

Both the owner of the Web site and Pro Hosters, which hosts the site, confirmed that Computer Service Langenbach, which operates Joker.com, a domain name registrar, pulled the Ogrish.com domain name from its database at the request of a German prosecutor.
"I've never heard of a case where a registrar can disable a domain over content," Ted Hickman, who runs Virginia-based Web hosting firm Pro Hosters, told CNET. "I certainly won't be registering any domains at Joker.com...we'll host anything that's legal in the US. It's not our job to determine whether content is acceptable to others."
Ogrish and Pro Hosters made headlines last May when the FBI asked them to remove video footage of the murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl.
