Webhostingpad is not all that bad, but they do have their issues.
I've dealt with some really fly by night host companies, so perhaps this makdes WHP look better to me than they actually are. Anyway, the good then the bad;
The price is good, domain propagation is fast on new sites (I have 3 with them now), data transfer speeds are good, the cpanel fantastico and all of the scripts make managing the site a breeze. Whenever changes are made to the site, even major changes like moving a bunch of content to a new subdomain, the propagation is pretty much instant. FTP and email services are quick and speedy, and there are almost no limits on file types. Support responds quickly.
Now for the bad. About once a month the entire domain will go down (website, email, everything) and will not come back up until I contact them. Support does respond quickly (usually less than an hour) but until they're notified, it will stay down. The response is always the same, "the DNS server was reset and you have to wait for propagation". BS! Site will stay down indefinitely until you contact them, and once you do it's magically fixed. They always try to get you to think that the site just now went down and that you're submitting a ticket early on.
There is a warning every time a user sends an email about certificates being invalid. This only happens on my WHP domains. They've never resolved it and just state that it's my client despite the fact that it happens on every client tuned to the settings that they say the user should have. I've also had a warning pop-up about a certificate not matching when visiting the main page of one of my websites. This happened only once. I contacted support about it and yep, you guessed it, they responded saying that the whole thing had just reset and that's why I got the error. It never happened again though.
Bandwidth and webspace are NOT unlimited. They say this, but when you sign up you have a quota of 10GB. I contacted them on this and they said, "it is unlimited. If you get close to the limit let us know and we'll approve more". Why should I have to ask them for more space if it's umlimited? I'm not at my limits but I can imagine that reaching the quota and asking for more would entail them not giving me more or giving me only a little more.
I had a domain that was going to renew in 2 months (I paid a year in advance). I submitted a ticket for them not to renew the domain. The response was to immediately close the account. This meant that all content associated with the domain was gone immediately. So I paid for 12 months and got 10 with no time to back up my files. It wasn't a big deal because I just had some image hosting and used it as a script sandbox, but still that was uncalled for. All they had to do was let it expire, not cancel it immediately!
All in all they're relatively good, but that's only compared to the really bad hosts I've had in the past, and I've had some doozies.
