47% Rate Increase Without Notice
We are a nonprofit who has hosted with WebHero since 2004. Our WebHero hosting rates increased 47% at renewal time without any advance notice. Our 2012 renewal bill was $50 for the hosting club and $149.50 for 12 months hosting (equalling about $12.50/mo for hosting compared to our 2011 rate of about $8.50/mo) WebHero's only explanation to us was that they offer 24/7 USA support. They also said we were to expect continued rate increases given the improvements to their website and services (the improved service is that you can now use their installer to load WordPress, etc - versus their previous system that charged $10 each time. Also, they have finally installed a modern, usable control panel). We did not appreciate, or expect, a 47% increase in fees and especially did not expect it to happen without any advance notice to us. WebHero is nonnegotiable on this issue. As a result, we are switching ISPs immediately. Our new ISP rate is $4/mo (locked in for 3 years), C-panel, and 24/7 USA phone support! Be very careful when reviewing WebHero rates. The ones posted on their WebHosting link are not the actual fees charged. Click on the Compare Pricing link to see what you will actually be charged. For example, the only way to pay $8.29/mo is to pay a $149.95 wholesale club membership fee plus $99.50 for hosting. That is WebHero's way of saying the hosting fee = $8.29/mo!
