I bought a two-year domain package with Innter.net about five years ago. When the two-year period was up, I didn't need the domain any more, so I filled in the cancellation form they provide on their website and sent it to them. They cancelled the domain. Fine. A few weeks later, I got an email from them telling me that, although I had cancelled the domain, I had not cancelled my contract with them, because that required a different form. They referred me to that form: it was the same form I had already filled in. I filled it in again and sent it off. They billed me for another year, saying I had not cancelled the contract in time.
After an irate exchange of emails, I (stupidly) paid the extra year and thought that was that - they had the cancellation now, and surely in plenty of time for next year! I forgot all about it.
A year later, back they came and accused me of failing to pay the bill for the next year. I ignored this. Only at this point did I start to read around online and find out that this is how Innter.net operates: they set peculiar, complicated but legally fairly watertight conditions for cancelling contracts, ensuring that people fail to do it properly, and when they fail, they pursue them for increasingly astronomical punitive chages.
Sure enough, this year they have continued to send me demands, and now I have had a demand from an Austrian collection agency, KMS Inkasso. Presumably I will eventually hear from an Austrian court.
DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH INNTER.NET. IF YOU DO FIND YOURSELF IN MY SITUATION, DO NOT PAY! DO NOT REPLY! IGNORE THEM.
I have studied German-language forums online, and found many interesting remarks. The following (my translation) is particularly useful:
"Today, in Graz [Austria], I have made a police complaint about KMS Inkasso to the effect that they are the accomplices of [Mario] Jakelj [the owner of Innter.net]... Up to now, NOBODY has had to pay anything if they remain FIRM and do not let themselves get intimidated. Most feel that they must have done something wrong themselves in not following terms and conditions properly, but terms and conditions that are 'contra bonos moros' or purport to charge for imaginary costs, that do not permit any proper form of communication and are blatantly designed for the purpose of fraud, are not valid"
(http://www.beschwerden-portal.com/forum/telekom-upc-inode-tele2-und-internet-provider--f31/finger-weg-von-der-firma-innter-net--t366.html - for those who speak German. There are many other such sites. Innter.net is notorious.)
STEER WELL CLEAR, and DO NOT BE BROWBEATEN BY THEM. THEY ARE SMALL-TOWN CROOKS.
