hostupon is a scam

" they are a scam claiming unlimited server but when you are with them they shut down your site unless you switch to their Vpn account the following is an actual hostupon ticket with their technical depatment.

Hi Mike,

We noticed that your account is extremely resource intensive and is directly responsible for degrading the server's performance which affects everyone else hosted on the server.
Immediate action had to be taken to stabilize the server's performance.

You are hosted on a shared Business plan which is hosted in a shared environment with other clients..
There is a Cpu restriction in place on our shared servers which allows you to use no more than 10% of the server's resources for no more than 60 seconds at a time.

Below is a snippet from our Aup (Acceptable Usage Policy):

Excessive Resource User Policy: Resources are defined as bandwidth, memory and/or processor utilization. A website is considered using "Excessive amounts of resources" when it monopolies the resources available using 10% or more of system resources for longer than 60 seconds. There are numerous problems that could cause such problems, this includes but not limited to: cgi scripts, Ftp, Http, etc. A site that consumes over the account limit of bandwidth is also considered "excessive resources". This policy is only implemented in extreme circumstances and is intended to prevent the misuse of our servers. The client whom is using "excessive resources" will be asked to upgrade his/her package to one of our semi-dedicated or dedicated server packages. HostUpon will be the sole and final arbiter as to what constitutes a violation of this policy. HostUpon does not suspend accounts utilizing their given space or bandwidth allotments. Suspensions will only occur if client violates above restrictions. We will try to notify users prior to a suspension however if the account is effecting performance in any way we must first take action and suspend the account without notification.

This restriction is put in place to ensure that the server stays stable at all times.

Given the high resource demand of your account we cannot continue to host you on your current plan.
Upgrading your plan to a Vps is highly recommended and will better suite your account's high needs/requirements.
A Vps plan will also ensure that these sort of service interruptions will not arise again in the future..

A Vps plan has no restrictions in anyway and is dedicated to only your sites and no one else which is why we're recommending a Vps plan to you.
You can do pretty much anything you wish on a Vps as these plans come with full root access (Just like a dedicated server) which gives you full control over your server.
The biggest benefit of a Vps is that you can customize your server by adding additional hardware such as space and ram etc as needed.
You will also notice a huge improvement on a Vps compared to your current plan as our Vps plans are one of the fastest hosting solutions we provide.

I have had the same sites on your server for over a year and everything was fine and now without notice you shut my sites down this is totally unacceptable. I have clients that depend on my services and when I originally went with your server I was told no problem running xoops applications. The amount of use has not grown that much larger over night. Right now all of my sites are not working and I have no access to the information on them. If you want I can forward my original e-mail with your company before deciding to use your server and you reassured me your server could handle my applications with no problems. I have in writing what you promised me with my account please resolve this problem. If there was a problem why did you renew my server contract and why was I not contacted about a problem instead of just shuting my sites down without any warning. I have a couple thousand hours of work on your servers that you are dening me access to as well as all my clients and customers shut down without notice. Please contact me or have your legal department contact me something needs to be resolved. I just can not believe any respectable company would deal with something like this by closing my server space without any notice.

Mike,

You are hosted on a shared plan with other clients.
We cannot allow a single account to affect the server's performance and everyone else hosted on the server.
As mentioned there is a Cpu restriction in place on our shared servers and your account is going way over this restriction.

We highly recommend that you upgrade your plan to one that will better suite your needs/requirements such as a Private or Vps server as your account is no longer suitable for a shared hosting environment. What We can do for you is offer a Vps20 plan at a discounted rate as this plan will be better suited for you.
The normal price for a Vps20 plan is $49.95/month we can offer it to you for $34.95/month.

We do not suspend accounts on a Vps as all resources offered are dedicated to only your sites and no one else.

I f you give me access to my server space I can remove the majority of the web sites so it complies with your request. But I need to have access so I can move them to other servers. I am not interested in your vps plan but I need access to my sites so I can move them. If I had been notified that I was over your limit I could have changed this before but your sales staff assured me there would be no problem with using multiple xoops applications. Again if you need copies of your e-mails stating this fact I can forward them to you.

I removed any excess info from your server shut all my sites off to any traffic but me and I still over cpu usage? I am not understanding where it is coming from? I was checking all logs and could not find any problems or excess use if fact the traffic was very low for all of the sites. I transferred all of my sites except for Miktre.com the main site (simple static html page) and one xoops site with zen cart plantersdelight.com . If you let me get back on my control panel I can uninstall all other xoops apps and delete all files for other sites. I moved all my other xoops sites to another server and even with the existing sites I have and there is no cpu problem I am not understanding why there is one here?

the problem is in Your server when I can goggle hostupon reviews and every third one is that you suspend accounts for over cpu use and I moved all of the sites except one to another server and I have no problem there at all with cpu usage. Move to a Vpn account with you no way. I guess my next response will be with your legal department because in my country they call something like this extortion. I guess my service ticket with histupon will go online with dozens of others of how hostupon deals with clients. No thanks for your help you are in no doubt the biggest scam out there for service providers! "
