It honestly seems like amateur hour at Hosthatch. First the instance I deployed wasn't reachable or even pingable. This was admittedly quickly fixed by support after submitting a ticket, but then none of the provided credentials worked, for both the machine and their control panel website area. Attempting to reset password (as suggested by support without mentioning why the credentials they provided don't work) resulted in their site returning what appeared to be database errors. Some time later I was provided new credentials by email, which also did not work.
I can't comment on the actual VPS performance, because I wasn't able to even access it. Support reply reasonably quickly, but seem to be of little value in actually rectifying issues. After half a day trying to access a VPN instance that should have taken minutes, I'm ready to give up.
The fact that their last post in their blog was a year ago should have been a warning sign. Their seemingly bug ridden customer facing portal and deployment setup give zero confidence in the technical quality of their services. Having used providers such as DO, where everything just works and deployments are ready in seconds, there seems little reason to consider hosthatch.
It's also worth nothing that they email root passwords in plain text, despite this not being required since the user provided their chosen password during deployment. This is unacceptable in 2016.
