Very good but with qualifications

3Essentials met all my expectations for more than three years. My websites were always up, and response time was good. The few times I submitted tickets, I got quick, polite, and satisfactory replies. However, a few things became deal-breakers, and now I'm looking to change hosts.

The first problem happened when I decided I wanted to host more than one domain name. When I first signed up, they didn't offer a multi-domain plan. By the time I wanted one, they did offer it, and it was only a couple dollars more per month. So I asked that my account be upgraded, but they said they couldn't do that. Instead, I'd have to download all my files, cancel my account, and sign up again as a new customer. I thought that was unreasonable. There's no reason they couldn't just turn on the option that allows multiple domains and bill me the extra couple of bucks.

The second problem was when a PHP application I use got upgraded, and I discovered that it needed PHP 5.3 and that my 3Essentials shared server had PHP 5.2. I asked when they were going to upgrade the server's PHP, and they said they weren't going to. Again, I thought this was unreasonable since PHP 5.2 reached its end-of-life in 2011, more than three year before.

Now I notice that they no longer offer shared hosting. Their cheapest plan now is a "cloud" plan for $20 a month, and while it's quite reasonable if you want to host high-traffic websites, I can't justify the price what for I need.

If you need a high-capacity host, 3Essentials is probably a very good host, especially since they're getting out of the low-cost retail market. Without having to deal with lots of new user questions, they can better serve a smaller number of larger customers. But if you're just looking for basic hosting for under $10 a month, they're no longer the place to be.
Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review and for being a valued customer with us for more than three years. We truly appreciate your kind words about uptime, performance, and support during your time with us.

We understand your frustrations regarding the lack of a smooth upgrade path for multi-domain hosting and the limitations around PHP version support at the time. Since then, we’ve made major improvements to our infrastructure and service options to provide more flexibility and ensure that customers aren’t limited by outdated software or plan structures.

While it’s true that we’ve shifted our focus toward cloud-based solutions, this change allows us to provide a more stable, secure, and scalable hosting environment for our customers. We recognize this may not fit every budget or need, but it ensures we can deliver the reliability and features that modern websites and applications require.

We appreciate your candid feedback — it’s reviews like yours that help us grow and refine our services. If your hosting needs ever change, we’d be glad to welcome you back and show you how much our platform has evolved since your time with us.

Best regards,
Tyler
