HOSTAFRICA has grown into one of the more substantial hosting brands focused on the African market, and it no longer feels like a small local provider with a limited product range. The company was founded in 2016 by Michael Osterloh together with two European hosting entrepreneurs, while the South African operating entity goes back further, with company registration roots tied to 2008. That gives the business a solid mix of newer expansion energy and older local operating history.
The service portfolio is broad enough to cover nearly every standard hosting requirement from one provider. They offer shared web hosting, LiteSpeed hosting, WordPress hosting, WooCommerce hosting, email hosting, domain registration, SSL certificates, website builder tools, Linux Cloud VPS, Linux VDS, Windows cloud servers, Windows VDS, managed VPS hosting, dedicated servers, GPU servers, managed colocation, online backups, and several reseller lines for hosting, domains, VPS, and backup services. For customers who want to start with a small plan and scale later, that range is one of the company’s strongest advantages.
The lineup also feels practical rather than inflated with unnecessary categories. Entry-level users can begin with shared hosting or WordPress hosting, agencies can move into reseller services, and more demanding projects can scale into VPS, VDS, dedicated, or colocation solutions without leaving the same platform. That makes the service suitable for freelancers, small businesses, developers, resellers, and growing e-commerce projects.
Another strong point is that HOSTAFRICA is no longer limited to a single-country focus. The business has expanded across the continent through acquisitions and regional growth in markets such as Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, and West Africa. That wider African presence adds credibility for customers who want regional relevance, local billing options, and lower-latency hosting instead of depending entirely on Europe or the United States.
The storefront is also built for multiple African markets. The platform is mainly English-language, but it supports several country and currency combinations, including South Africa, International, Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana, with visible pricing in ZAR, USD, NGN, KES, GHS, and EGP. That makes the service feel genuinely regional rather than limited to one domestic market.
💰 Price & Cost
Pricing is competitive without looking artificially cheap. Standard web hosting starts at around R99/month, LiteSpeed hosting at about R120/month, WordPress hosting at a similar entry level, email hosting at roughly R36/month, Linux VPS from R130/month, and Windows cloud servers from about R580/month. Dedicated servers are positioned much higher, as expected, and are clearly aimed at heavier business workloads rather than budget users.
The lower-end plans are attractive because they combine accessible pricing with practical features for South African business use. Shared hosting includes a free .co.za domain on qualifying plans, free migration is a major part of the offer, and several plans include free SSL and straightforward onboarding. That makes the entry point especially suitable for first websites, agencies managing client projects, and businesses moving from older local providers.
The refund policy is reassuring on the mainstream hosting side. Web hosting, email hosting, website builder products, and reseller-oriented shared hosting come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. That does not necessarily apply in the same way to every advanced infrastructure product, but it does make the mass-market hosting range easier to try with limited risk.
Payment flexibility is also above average for the region. HOSTAFRICA supports bank transfer / EFT, credit and debit cards, and locally familiar channels such as PayFast, PayGate, SnapScan, and PayPal. For South African customers, that is a practical advantage because payment does not depend only on international card processing.
🏢 Data Center
Infrastructure is one of HOSTAFRICA’s more convincing strengths. The company runs its core hosting services through Tier 3 data center infrastructure in South Africa, and the accreditation details connect the business directly to Digital Parks Africa in Johannesburg. That gives the hosting portfolio a stronger foundation than a simple reseller arrangement.
They also operate two data centres in Johannesburg, including one ISO-compliant facility. That point matters because it suggests real operational depth instead of a business built only on third-party infrastructure. Dedicated server services also reinforce the enterprise angle with details such as triple upstream redundancy, DDoS mitigation, 1 Gbit/s network connectivity, and unlimited traffic positioning on dedicated products.
For VPS and VDS services, the infrastructure remains solid. Linux VPS runs on KVM virtualization, while Linux VDS and Windows VDS are better suited to customers who want stronger isolation and more dedicated-style resources without moving all the way to bare metal. Windows cloud products focus on dedicated resources, local billing, and continuous monitoring.
The uptime commitment is clear throughout the catalog. HOSTAFRICA consistently works with a 99.9% uptime guarantee / SLA, and several service lines also include 24x7 monitoring. That is a sound commercial standard and enough for most business websites, online stores, and hosted email needs. It is not the highest availability target in the industry, but it is consistent across shared hosting, WordPress, VPS, VDS, and dedicated solutions.
Another useful sign of operational maturity is the presence of a public network status area. That does not prevent downtime, but it does add transparency, which is always preferable to providers that leave customers without visibility when something goes wrong.
✍️ Customer Support
Support is clearly one of the pillars of the HOSTAFRICA brand. The company offers 24/7, 365-day support through its ticketing platform, and the wider support structure also includes live chat, a knowledge base, direct contact options, and public network-status visibility. For first-time site owners and small businesses, that often matters more than raw hardware specifications.
The support model appears to be built around accessibility rather than pushing every customer toward self-service. Tickets are central, but live chat is visible and the company also publishes a South African phone number for direct contact. The overall support style seems well suited to customers who may need migration assistance, billing help, onboarding guidance, or advice when choosing between shared hosting and more advanced server services.
The broader tone of the business is also customer-oriented. HOSTAFRICA feels designed to be approachable for less technical users while still offering enough depth for developers, resellers, and businesses planning to scale. That balance works especially well for agencies, startups, and SMEs.
🔨 Control Panel
The control-panel situation is slightly more nuanced than the branding first suggests. HOSTAFRICA still promotes cPanel-style hosting, but it also makes clear that DirectAdmin is used as a full-featured alternative on some hosting lines. That is worth noting because customers expecting literal cPanel everywhere should verify the exact plan before ordering.
On the server side, Managed VPS Hosting specifically mentions cPanel/DirectAdmin, together with priority support and daily backups. The wider server ecosystem also includes references to Plesk, especially around more advanced setups and control-panel comparisons. In practical terms, the company supports multiple panel environments rather than forcing every service into a single interface.
For beginners, that flexibility is usually helpful. For experienced administrators, it simply means checking the service details carefully before choosing a plan, especially when a specific control panel is important.
🎯 Conclusion
HOSTAFRICA stands out as a serious African hosting provider with real scale, a broad product catalog, and a much stronger regional footprint than many smaller local competitors. The strongest parts of the offer are the wide service range, solid South African infrastructure, clear 99.9% uptime positioning, good payment flexibility, 24/7 support availability, and a natural upgrade path from basic hosting to VPS, dedicated servers, or colocation. The weaker side is not the lack of products, but the level of technical transparency for advanced buyers. The company gives enough information for ordinary business customers, but highly technical users may still want more exact public detail about network architecture, facility design, and the control panel used on every individual service line. Even so, that is more a limitation for advanced infrastructure buyers than a real drawback for the average hosting customer.
Overall, HOSTAFRICA is easy to recommend for small businesses, agencies, startups, resellers, and growing online projects that want a provider with local relevance and room to scale. It feels strongest as a long-term platform where a customer can begin with web hosting or WordPress and later move into VPS, VDS, or dedicated infrastructure without changing provider.

Africa’s first NVIDIA RTX PRO GPU Servers have landed - For years, African developers, researchers, studios, and AI teams have had no choice but to rent GPU infrastructure from overseas.
This meant paying in dollars or euros, contending with high latency, and depending on support teams in entirely different time zones.
Worse, their workloads and data sit outside South Africa, creating real data-sovereignty and compliance headaches.

😁 I was not able to login to the client area and was connected with Tomiwa to assist me. Once Tomiwa requested my email address and I typed it into the message area, I realised that I was entering my email address incorrectly and therefore not able to access the client area. I immediately apologised and Tomiwa was very understanding. I do apologise for the error on my side and I greatly appreciate Tomiwa's patience and understanding.
