The suits, filed in California, Georgia, Virginia, and Washington, accuse the spammers of sending unwanted email about prescription drugs, herbal potions, and weight loss plans. Many spammers have not been named, but ISP lawyers have told the media they are confident that through subpoenas and other investigative tools they will be able to identify and find them. Yahoo has employed a former computer-crimes expert at the Justice Department who investigated high-profile Internet attacks four years ago to help in the search. Among the defendants named are Davis Wolfgang Hawke of Massachusetts, accused with others of sending millions of E-mails offering things such as weight loss supplements. Eric Daniel Head, Matthew Head, and Barry Head, all from Canada, have been accused of sending 94 million emails soliciting people to Web sites registered to false Chinese names and addresses.
