May 12, 2004 : News Streams Improving, Keynote Says
📅 - Streaming video on the most popular news Web sites has reached new levels of reliability and quality, according to Keynote System's (keynote.com) recent study of news video quality. The study was based on 2441 streams made on seven major news sites during a two-week period between April 24 and May 7. The sites included ABC News, BBC News, CBC News, CBS News, CNN, MSNBC and FOX News,
According to the study, all seven sites recorded availability scores of 98 percent or higher for their top video stories over a two-week period. ABC led the way with an average availability of 99.84 percent. BBC, CBC, CBS, CNN and FOX ranked second through sixth, while MSNBC had the lowest average availability of the seven at 98.89 percent.
The stream on all seven sites, with exception to BBC, were given an average grade of A+ based on StreamQ, Keynote's metric for measuring overall stream quality.
"The dramatic improvements in quality that we have seen over the past 2 years are no coincidence. They are a direct result of the increased focus that news organizations are placing on their streaming offerings," says Shai Berger, general manager of the streaming division at Keynote. "The number of sites offering extensive news video has increased dramatically and Internet users have become aware of their choices. In turn, the news sites have become aware that they need to ensure that their visitors receive a consistently high quality experience. This means expending effort on good site design, timeliness of content and ? the focus of this study ? streaming quality."
