Aug 30, 2004 : GeoTrust Offers Lifetime SSL Reissues

📅 August 30, 2004 - Security solution provider GeoTrust (geotrust.com) announced on Monday that it has introduced a new certificate replacement program that allows free lifetime self-service reissues for its SSL server certificate customers. The new program replaces the company's previous seven-day reissue policy and applies to all GeoTrust SSL certificates.

According to GeoTrust, all existing core certificate details must remain the same (including domain name and company name), and customers will need to generate a new Certificate Signing Request to qualify for reissuance. GeoTrust said it is extending self-service reissuance throughout the validity period of an SSL certificate.
Customers typically need to re-provision their certificates when upgrading or changing server software or operating platform, when switching Internet and Web hosting providers or when an existing private key has been lost, destroyed or inadvertently overwritten.
"Threats such as online fraud and identity theft make it critical for e-businesses to maintain a secure infrastructure at all times - even a momentary lapse can cause major security issues," says Joan Lockhart, vice president of marketing for GeoTrust. "Web security should never be compromised because a certificate is lost or needs to be moved from one server to another. Our customers need to be able to obtain replacement certificates quickly and easily, and this program meets that need."
