Oct 28, 2004 : George Bush Site Rejecting Visitors
📅 - According to reports by research and analysis firm Netcraft (netcraft.com), earlier this week the official Web site for President George W. Bush began rejecting visitors from outside the United States while still allowing access to US and Canadian visitors.
Netcraft monitors Web site response times from seven locations, including four within the United States and three in other countries. Netcraft reported that requests to the site from London, Amsterdam and Sydney, Australia all failed. As of Thursday, visitors from outside the US are still not able to access the site. A spokesperson for the Bush-Cheney campaign said the blocking was undertaken for "security reasons." According to Netcraft, the site began using Akamai's (akamai.com) content distribution network to manage traffic to the site after a six-hour outage took place on October 19. The outage also affected RNC.org, the Web site for the Republican National Committee. GeorgeBush.com is hosted with SmarTech Corporation (smartechcorp.net).
