📅 December 7, 2004 - Managed Web hosting provider The Planet (theplanet.com -> softlayer.com -> ibm.com) announced on Monday that it deployed 500 servers in just five hours for Pandemic Studios, creators of Star Wars Battlefront and other popular games. The 500 servers were installed, configured and delivered at the rate of one every 36 seconds using The Planet's proprietary automated provisioning system.

"We worked closely with Pandemic for several days, finalizing how they wanted the servers configured and rigorously testing the boxes to ensure every requirement was met," says Jacob Linscott, managed services coordinator at The Planet. "Once we received approval, we were able to launch 500 precisely configured machines over the course of an afternoon."
The Planet says its automated server deployment system prevents costly mistakes, saves countless man-hours and enables the company to deliver solutions to its customers almost instantaneously.
The company offers a variety of server packages, including entry-level Server Matrix solutions and Total Control custom packages for enterprise clients. Prices start at $99 per month for Server Matrix packages, while Total Control solutions range from $249 to $999 per month based on hardware, software and services selected.
