Apr 22, 2005 : XM Radio Streams Music With Akamai
📅 - Content delivery network operator Akamai Technologies (akamai.com) and XM Satellite Radio announced on Monday that Akamai is the lead provider of Internet streaming services for XM Radio Online (xmradio.com). "Akamai's on-demand platform has been critical to delivering a high-quality streaming music service for XM's subscribers," says Hugh Panero, CEO of XM Satellite Radio. "By offering XM subscribers the ability to listen to our programming at their computers, we are using the Internet to add tremendous value to our basic service." XM Radio Online offers more than 70 channels of commercial-free music, talk, comedy and children's programming. XM began offering XM Radio Online to all XM subscribers as part of its basic subscription plan this past month. "The ability to bring an online radio experience to people is something Akamai is very familiar with, and we're excited to be part of the growth and expansion of XM's business," says Paul Sagan, CEO of Akamai.

📅 - Akamai Finds Enterprise AI Use Evading Security Controls - Enterprise AI adoption is rapidly shifting from isolated experimentation to everyday business operations, but Akamai says security controls have failed to keep pace. Its latest State of the Internet report argues that browser extensions, autonomous AI agents, and decentralized AI usage are creating new attack paths that conventional enterprise defenses were never designed to detect or manage effectively.
The conversation around enterprise AI has changed remarkably quickly. A year ago, most organizations were still debating whether employees should use generative AI tools at work. That discussion is largely over. AI assistants now draft code, summarize documents, analyze data, and [...]
📅 - AI Bots Make Online Commerce Cybercrime's New Primary Target - Akamai says commerce has become the primary target for AI-enabled bot attacks, API abuse, application-layer denial-of-service campaigns, and increasingly automated fraud. By December 2025, AI bots represented 47.9% of commerce traffic observed on its network, forcing retailers, travel operators, payment providers, and marketplaces to reconsider how they identify customers, machines, and criminal automation at scale in production.
The immediate problem is not simply more hostile traffic. It is that legitimate automation and criminal automation are beginning to look operationally similar. Shopping agents browse product catalogs, compare prices, assemble carts, and use stored credentials. [...]
📅 - Akamai to Buy LayerX for $205M to Expand AI Guardrails Fast - Akamai plans to acquire browser security startup LayerX for roughly $205 million, expanding beyond infrastructure protection into a newer enterprise anxiety: monitoring how employees and autonomous agents interact with generative AI tools inside browsers, where much of today's corporate work - and increasingly sensitive data exchange - now occurs.
For cybersecurity vendors, the browser has quietly become the new perimeter. Or perhaps the least protected one.
Employees spend most of their working day inside web applications, SaaS platforms, and increasingly, generative AI interfaces. They upload files into large language models, paste customer information into chat windows, test internal [...]
📅 - Akamai Debuts AI Grid for Distributed Inference Across Edge Locations - Akamai Technologies has announced the global rollout of its AI Grid intelligent orchestration platform, marking a significant step in distributed artificial intelligence infrastructure. Revealed as part of its Akamai Inference Cloud strategy, the system spans more than 4,400 edge locations worldwide and aims to optimize AI inference workloads by balancing latency, cost, and performance in real time.
The company said it is the first to operationalize the NVIDIA AI Grid reference design at global scale, integrating advanced GPU infrastructure into its distributed network. The move reflects a broader shift in enterprise AI from centralized processing toward distributed, edge-enabled [...]
📅 - Submer Buys Radian Arc To Expand AI Edge Cloud Platform - Submer has announced plans to acquire Radian Arc Operations, a move aimed at expanding its capabilities across the fast-growing market for distributed AI infrastructure. The deal brings together Submer's data center and AI cloud platform technologies with Radian Arc's telecom-integrated GPU edge computing services.
This would create a combined offering that spans centralized AI facilities and low-latency edge environments. The transaction reflects growing enterprise demand for sovereign, performance-intensive AI infrastructure that can operate close to users while meeting regulatory and operational requirements across multiple regions.
Barcelona-based Submer has built its reputation [...]
