), a leading provider of streaming media content management and delivery, announced on Monday the release of an enhanced version of its leading streaming media distribution system, streamOS.

The streamOS platform uses multiple content delivery networks for high-performance streaming content delivery. The latest version includes the ability to easily deploy and manage large volumes of video on demand and Internet broadcasts for live events. The platform also includes advanced reporting capabilities that provide users with almost real time access to performance statistics, including unique stream requests, referring URLs and duration of streams.
According to NaviSite, recent analyst reports show a strong potential for the growth of NaviSite's existing enterprise business model, indicating an increase in the use of streaming media by traditional business organizations.
In an April 2001 report, Jupiter Media Metrix predicted that business spending on streaming video technology would grow from $140 million in 2000 to $2.8 billion in 2005.
NaviSite already supports enterprise customers such as Anheuser-Busch, which recently chose streamOS as its exclusive streaming provider for on demand videos and live Internet broadcasts from the popular Budweiser.com Web site.
According to NaviSite, since its launch in October 2000, streamOS has become one of the industry's leading technology platforms for managing content distributions. The company has been involved in several blockbuster Internet broadcasts, including streams of Hootie and the Blowfish, the re-entry of the Mir space station and Madonna's London Concert, the largest streamed event in Internet history.
NaviSite says it has an advantage over other streaming providers who are locked into one delivery network. Because NaviSite uses several delivery partners, if one is backed up, the client is simply routed to another. The company says that combining these resources allows it to handle events with massive audiences, like the Madonna concert.
streamOS allows users to deploy, organize and manage streaming content through a browser-based interface. The latest version of the platform includes more than 70 new features, including the Digital File Manager, which lets customers check in files with a drag-and-drop operation. The operating system also lets users upload one file, and break it up into several URLs for different parts of the file. Users can also take advantage of the new Broadcast Relay Manager, which allows them more control over uploading and managing live events, as well as the permission levels required to access an event's streaming files.
