Sep 6, 2005 : Hosting Firm Launches Aid Site

📅 September 6, 2005 - A new Web site, AmericaUnited.com (americaunited.com), launched on Friday to help bring together aid from those who can help hurricane victims. The site was conceived and built by Web design firm GOTWWW (gotwww.com), with technical resources provided by service providers HomeSurf USA (homesurfusa.com) and NetFronts (netfronts.com ).

Nearly a million people were left homeless after Hurricane Katrina devastated over 90 percent of New Orleans and its surrounding areas.

The AmericaUnited site provides three services. People Connector is a database that is currently being developed by the University of Louisiana and Microsoft, which will enable hurricane victims to connect with missing family and friends.

Housing Connector is a database created to connect people that have available housing with victims needing shelter. Both individuals and organizations can register their available housing information, which can then be accessed by victims and their families. Finally, visitors to the site can donate to various Katrina relief organizations through the Trustworthy Donation Organization Links supplied.

"Many organizations and companies have come together in order to provide a one-stop location, AmericaUnited.com, for the purposes of re-uniting families that have been separated during this disaster and to provide an online location that connects people who want to give free housing and donations to those that have been left without a home," says Dean Craig, partner and founder of GOTWWW.
