Oct, 2005 : China Continues to Block Dissident Sites

📅 - Chinese authorities shut down two more Web sites this week as the country's government continues to crack down on Web sites hosting dissident content.
An online discussion forum reporting anti-corruption protests in the village of Taisho and a site for ethnic Mongolian students alleged to be hosting pro-separatist content were taken offline. The news comes on the heels of China's recent introduction of new and stricter rules aimed at controlling dissent on the Internet. China routinely blocks or takes down Web sites it deems subversive and recently passed a law requiring all bloggers to register with the central government. In a separate report, The France-based media organization Reporters Without Borders said China also temporarily blocked a Web site operated by a law firm in the Inner Mongolian region.
