📅 - Clear Channel Radio's online music and radio unit selected Akamai (akamai.com) as its streaming services provider, the companies announced on Tuesday. Akamai will provide on-demand streaming for Clear Channel's eight million monthly users and ultimately support Clear Channel Radio's national network of approximately 1,200 radio station Web sites - a quarter of which are streaming live online. Gerrit Meier, senior vice president and general manager of Clear Channel Radio's online music and radio unit, says it selected Akamai because it needed a reliable backbone and no longer wanted to deal with multiple vendors across several different markets. "Our audience is growing much more rapidly than we expected, yet their expectations for high-quality programming that downloads quickly and streams smoothly only goes up," says Meier. "Akamai's on-demand platform is critical to delivering a high-quality streaming service for our listeners and viewers - and allows us to streamline operations and costs while continuing to accelerate our development of unique and diverse programming."
