Nov, 2005 : Rackspace Study Says Utility Uptake Slow
📅 - Rackspace Managed Hosting Europe (rackspace.co.uk -> rackspace.com) said on Tuesday that independent research commissioned by the company shows utility computing is still experiencing slow uptake.
According to Rackspace's research, only three percent of companies surveyed said they were using utility computing. Another eight percent said they planned to employ utility computing in the next 12 months while 16 percent of larger companies said they would employ utility computing within three years. More than half of respondents recognized the benefits of utility computing. "The utility computing model has been much discussed over the last 24 months as it is obvious that it offers a whole range of benefits for users," says Dominic Monkhouse, managing director for Rackspace Managed Hosting Europe. "However, most services have still not been clearly defined or packaged and this is preventing businesses from being able to take up the service. The results highlight that although companies are realizing the benefits few are ready - or able - to take the plunge." Monkhouse says Rackspace has already built utility computing into its systems and is continually testing new ways to apply the concept.
