Dec 16, 2005 : TypePad Sites Inaccessible to Users

📅 - Reports released Friday by Internet research firm Netcraft (netcraft.com) said that users of Six Apart's (sixapart.com) TypePad blogging service have reported they are unable to access the management interfaces for their blogs, and that posts from the past few days have gone missing.

While TypePad-hosted sites are visible, Six Apart says the TypePad blogging application is currently unavailable and describes the status of TypePad sites as "degraded." At one point, blogs had to be restored from backup, hence the disappearance of recent blog posts.

TypePad experienced some of its performance problems as it outgrew its existing space and transitioned to a new data center. Six Apart has posted a series of apologies for the poor performance, which has drawn complaints from TypePad users.

Along with TypePad, RSS reader Bloglines has been experiencing similar difficulties in recent months.

"We're not going to beat around the bush about this. Bloglines performance has sucked eggs lately,"  noted staff in a message to users. "In short, Bloglines has been busting at the seams like the Incredible Hulk. All of us here at Bloglines have been foregoing sleep and social lives over the past several months to keep Bloglines running and preparing for our move to a new access center."
