DE-CIX and Cabo Verde Telecom Explore Lisbon–São Paulo Interconnection Corridor
📅 - DE-CIX and Cabo Verde Telecom (CVTelecom) have signed a nonbinding letter of intent to explore a South Atlantic interconnection corridor between Lisbon and São Paulo. The proposed collaboration aims to improve connectivity among Southern Europe, West Africa, and Latin America.
The companies say the corridor could provide more direct traffic routes, reducing reliance on hubs in Northern Europe and North America while improving network resilience and route diversity.
Under the proposed arrangement, CVTelecom would supply transport capacity between Lisbon and São Paulo. DE-CIX would provide access to its interconnection services in Frankfurt, Madrid, Marseille, New York, and São Paulo, [...][... Check source for end of article ...]

📅 - DE-CIX Adds Austrian Exchange as Traffic Tops 30 Tbps Globally - DE-CIX is extending Internet exchange infrastructure into southern Austria as traffic on its Frankfurt platform crosses 20 terabits per second for the first time. The new ALPSiX exchange, serving Klagenfurt and Villach from late 2026, brings local peering closer to regional networks while DE-CIX's worldwide exchanges simultaneously passed 30 terabits per second in peak traffic this week.
The numbers expose two apparently conflicting movements in European network architecture. Frankfurt keeps getting bigger. At the same time, regional operators are trying to avoid sending traffic hundreds of kilometers to established hubs when two networks sitting in the same region could exchange it [...]
📅 - DE CIX Opens Stockholm AI Exchange For Nordic Cloud Traffic - DE CIX will launch an Internet and Cloud Exchange in Stockholm in September 2026, extending its Nordic footprint into Sweden and positioning the site for AI, cloud and real-time traffic from day one. The exchange, open for orders now, gives enterprises, carriers and cloud providers another local interconnection option in the region's largest colocation market, and beyond.
The new Stockholm exchange adds Sweden to DE CIX's Nordic buildout after launches in Denmark, Norway and Finland. The company began that regional expansion in 2023 with exchanges in Esbjerg, Copenhagen, Kristiansand, Oslo and Helsinki. Stockholm now becomes the missing obvious node. Not small. Not peripheral.

📅 - DE-CIX Boosts Mexico-Dallas Capacity Ahead of World Cup - DE-CIX has upgraded connectivity between Mexico and Dallas as networks prepare for heavy FIFA World Cup streaming traffic, after its Mexico exchange posted more than 400% traffic growth since early 2026 and peak usage near 300 Gbit/s, highlighting how live sports, gaming, enterprise workloads and cloud demand are reshaping cross-border internet infrastructure in North America now, quickly.
The upgrade is live. It connects DE-CIX's Mexico footprint more tightly with Dallas, one of the more important interconnection markets in the United States. The stated trigger was demand from Mexico-based networks looking for simpler routes into international data paths.
There is a World Cup angle, [...]
📅 - DE-CIX Joins Mplify Alliance to Advance AI Network Services - DE-CIX has joined the Mplify Alliance, becoming one of the earlier internet exchange operators to align with an industry effort around Network as a Service standards and automation. The move matters less as a membership announcement than as another sign that connectivity providers increasingly see software orchestration, APIs, and AI-era traffic patterns becoming core infrastructure products rather than supporting layers around them today.
Internet exchanges historically sat in a fairly defined place in the networking stack. Networks met there. Traffic crossed. Peering agreements happened. Capacity expanded. The mechanics mattered, but much of it stayed invisible outside carrier and [...]
📅 - DE-CIX Redesigns New York Metro For AI Traffic Growth - DE-CIX has completed a substantial redesign of its New York metro platform, adding a quad-node architecture spanning New York and New Jersey as internet exchanges increasingly adapt to AI-driven traffic patterns and rising enterprise resilience demands. The operator says the upgrade strengthens redundancy, enables more advanced cross-river connectivity strategies, and prepares the platform for accelerating 400 Gigabit Ethernet adoption across the region.
The technical changes may sound incremental from the outside. More nodes. More redundancy. More optical flexibility.
But underneath, the upgrade reflects a broader shift happening inside major interconnection markets where latency [...]
