OVHcloud and CGI Win European Space Agency Data Platform Deal
📅 - OVHcloud and CGI have won a 30 month European Space Agency contract to build a computing platform for Europe's Earth observation data. OVHcloud will supply cloud infrastructure, while CGI will design and integrate the system. The award gives a European provider a strategic public workload, but leaves the capacity, contract value and operating economics undisclosed for now.
The platform, called Digital EO, is intended to combine storage, computing and AI tools for researchers, public agencies and businesses. It will connect with existing national and European facilities rather than replace them outright. That makes interoperability a requirement with direct operating consequences. Users [...][... 📅 - OVHcloud Questions Business Case for Europe’s AI Gigafactories - OVHcloud is questioning whether Europe's emerging AI Gigafactory model can support the economics required to justify massive GPU investment, arguing that current public commitments leave operators carrying much of the commercial risk. The concerns were laid out in a newly published blog article by OVHcloud founder, Chairman and CEO Octave Klaba, who challenges several assumptions underpinning the proposed infrastructure model.
Klaba argues that single-site designs, nationally bounded demand, and the rapid depreciation of GPU hardware could leave multibillion-euro infrastructure projects struggling to maintain sufficient utilization. His argument is not that Europe lacks a need for [...]
📅 - OVHcloud Brings Portable Plakar Backup Into Its Public Cloud - OVHcloud is bringing Plakar's backup technology directly into its Public Cloud, giving customers a managed way to protect virtual machines, Kubernetes, databases, file systems and AI workloads while keeping control of encryption keys. The service also promises portable recovery outside OVHcloud, a design aimed at reducing operational sprawl without turning backup into another source of cloud dependence.
The integration lands in a part of cloud infrastructure that remains surprisingly fragmented. Enterprises routinely protect different workloads with different backup products, storage targets and operating procedures. That is manageable until environments spread across containers, managed [...]
📅 - OVHcloud Raises Dedicated Server Prices as AI Drives DDR5 Costs Sixfold - OVHcloud is raising prices across parts of its dedicated server portfolio after the cost of DDR5 memory it buys increased sixfold in a year, a surge the French cloud provider attributes largely to AI demand. New orders are already affected, while existing customers on recent server generations will face higher renewal prices from October 1, 2026, too.
The increases are unusually large in places. New memory options are rising by a median 127%, while storage options increase by a median 89%. Individual RAM upgrades range from 68% to 652% higher, according to OVHcloud. Some complete server configurations are also moving sharply. Its Game Gen 2026 GAME-1 server, for example, has doubled from [...]
📅 - OVHcloud Warns AI Boom Could Drive Server Prices Up by 87% - OVHcloud is preparing server price increases of up to 87% as surging memory and storage costs feed through Europe's cloud infrastructure market, with CEO Octave Klaba blaming AI-driven hyperscale procurement for distorting component prices and forcing the French provider to reprice new bare-metal systems while increasing some existing contracts when customers next renew them from October onward.
The immediate problem for customers is not GPUs. It is everything around them. Klaba says OVHcloud's memory costs had risen sixfold by June 2026 and ninefold by September, with the company expecting a twelvefold increase by the following year. Hard drives are reportedly 3.5 times more expensive, [...]
📅 - OVHcloud Public Cloud Growth Tops 20% as AI Plans Expand - OVHcloud reported faster third-quarter growth as public cloud revenue rose more than 20%, helped by starter products, corporate demand and fresh AI moves. The French cloud provider confirmed its fiscal 2026 targets, including positive levered free cash flow, while highlighting a European Commission sovereign-cloud win and planned Gladia acquisition during a crowded quarter for cloud infrastructure announcements.
For OVHcloud, the quarter is partly about numbers. €289.6 million in revenue, up 6.9% like for like. Nine-month revenue of €844.9 million, up 6.0%. Nothing explosive. But the shape is more interesting than the total.
Public Cloud is doing the work. Revenue in that segment reached [...]
