Aug, 2026 : AWS Acquires DuckLabs Without Buying Open-Source DuckDB
📅 - Amazon has agreed to acquire Amsterdam-based DuckLabs, bringing the core engineering team behind DuckDB into AWS while leaving the open-source database outside the transaction. The deal gives Amazon direct access to the developers steering one of analytics' fastest-growing projects, without ownership of the code, license or nonprofit foundation that governs its future technical direction and governance model.
Financial terms were not disclosed. Amazon said the transaction is expected to close shortly, subject to customary conditions, while DuckLabs said it expects to become an AWS subsidiary in early September.
