Jun, 2026 : IBM Commits $10B to Fault-Tolerant Quantum Roadmap

📅 June 6, 2026 - IBM said it will spend more than $10 billion on quantum computing over five years, extending a program that already spans cloud-access machines, on-premises systems, software, research partnerships and manufacturing. The company is now tying that spending to a 2029 fault-tolerant computer, Starling, while trying to keep enterprises engaged before useful quantum work is routine.

The figure is meant to be noticed in Washington, in corporate labs, and among buyers who have watched quantum computing move through a long cycle of scientific promise, vendor roadmaps and careful pilot projects.
