📅 - Digital Realty has broken ground on its first data center in Rome, marking a significant expansion of its PlatformDIGITAL footprint across the Mediterranean. The new facility, ROM1, is designed to become a key connectivity hub, linking Europe with Africa, the Middle East, and Asia through its integration with subsea cable systems and its role as a highly connected, carrier-neutral data center.
Situated within 15 kilometers of the coast, ROM1 will initially deliver over 3MW of installed IT capacity. The site spans 22 hectares - around 2.3 million square feet - with plans for future expansion that would make it one of Italy's largest data center campuses.
