Jul 12, 2006 : Microsoft Partners Take Over Boston

rackspace.com logo📅 - The city of Boston, Massachusetts saw a spike in it's population this week, to the tune of more than 7,000 Microsoft (microsoft.com) partners, who descended on the New England town to attend the software giant's Worldwide Partner Conference, 2006.

The event, which officially kicked off Monday, began in earnest Tuesday morning with a presentation by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, who outlined the company's roadmap of releases for 2007, which includes the heavyweight releases of Internet Explorer 7, Office 2007 and the much-anticipated Windows Vista operating system.

The partners in attendance include a wide range of independent software vendors, systems integrators and original equipment manufacturers, as well as a healthy showing of hosting providers.

And while much of the event is focused on the new Microsoft software lineup and the exciting possibilities for integration and interaction between programs through the company's expanding Live program, the sessions included information tailored to partners seeking to assemble hosting infrastructure.

In a Tuesday afternoon session, Microsoft's Morgan Cole presented an outline of the market for hosted solutions, including the demand generated by the increasingly effective deployment of software as a service style hosted applications.

The demonstration included an overview of Microsoft's Solution for Windows-Based hosting, a set of technologies and best practices designed to make it simple for partners to assemble hosting infrastructure, as well as its Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration and the newly launched Solution for Windows-Based Hosting for Applications.

Cole's presentation included a testimonial by John Engates, CTO of Web hosting provider Rackspace Managed Hosting (rackspace.com 👉 Total Reviews: 16
